Is the Term "Calvinist" a Wrong Term to Consider Yourself?

Sometimes you will hear Reformed Christians rant about how they are not followers of Calvin so we shouldn't call them "Calvinists". I believe this viewpoint is more oversimplified than correct.
I, like many of my Reformed brethren, do not mind the term "Calvinist". It does not mean we follow John Calvin on everything he taught... Not even many Presbyterian believers do that. The term at first was derogatory, but eventually grew to encompass Reformed Theology and it's many forms of Covenant Theology. Calvin was not the first to embrace monergism, Luther had before him and so did Tyndale, Huss, And Wycliffe... Though the different interpretations disagree on points, they do not disagree on the basic principles. Zwingli and Luther both influenced Calvin greatly, but Calvin was particularly espoused to the Early Church Fathers such as Augustine of Hippo and Clement of Rome. Who both taught Monergistic salvation to a point.
The term "Calvinist" is the name by which the five Solas and the five points have been titled under and that is why we use it today.
Soli Deo Gloria!
